Man Hoisted from Beached Vessel Off Little St. Simons
A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew rescued the captain of a 45-foot sailing vessel on June 4, 2023, about 3 miles offshore Little St. Simons Island, Georgia. Coast Guard Charleston watchstanders received the captain's VHF-FM radio call reporting that the vessel was taking on water and had become beached in 23 mph winds and 5-foot seas. The helicopter crew hoisted the captain off the beach and took him to Little St. Simons Island airport with no medical concerns.
