I think that boat does have a foamed hull, so it is basically unsinkable, unless it has a really heavy load. It won't sink any deeper, but it won't float any higher, either.

With some guts they could have sailed it back to shore with the little secundairy outboard engine

It sits high enough to not take water into the engine..
