Coast Guard Incident Management Division and local partners responded to a fire on the non-operational natural gas platform Habitat, nine miles off the coast of Santa Barbara, on May 11, 2026.

The fire occurred while platform personnel were conducting decommissioning operations. All crew members were evacuated, with no reported injuries.

Responders reported no current indications of oil being released from the platform into the water, and no current impacts to wildlife or the public. An investigation will determine the cause of the incident.
