U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Active (WMEC 618) boarding team members took control of a suspected drug trafficking vessel near Golfito, Costa Rica, on March 7, 2023.

The crew transferred suspected drug traffickers aboard the cutter and recovered more than 100 bales of marijuana that had been discharged overboard. The marijuana was valued at more than $3.5 million.

Active was on patrol in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and operating under the direction of Joint Information Task Force South, an inter-agency regional task force focused on detecting and deterring transnational criminal organizations between North and Central America.
