Containers Recovered at Port of Long Beach After Overboard Spill
The Pier G Container Incident Unified Command approved a salvage plan to continue recovering shipping containers in the Port of Long Beach, California, after multiple containers fell overboard from a cargo ship on September 9, 2025. On September 12, containers covered an emissions capture control barge still moored to the cargo ship. Recovery work included crane and response crews hoisting containers from the water, salvage crews recovering containers, and a damaged container being hauled to a warehouse. U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Strike Team members observed the recovery operations, and crew members prepared to move a container within the port.
