Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City transported two people in stable condition after their plane crashed on North Fox Island in Lake Michigan on May 20, 2026.

Coast Guard Sector Northern Great Lakes watchstanders were notified at 6:45 p.m. that a plane had crashed with two people aboard. An Air Station Traverse City MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew launched within 20 minutes, reached the island, landed next to the crashed aircraft on the air strip, and brought the two aboard.

The crew had confirmation en route that there were no injuries. The two were not in immediate danger, but temperatures dipped below freezing and they were not prepared to stay overnight on the remote island. The aircrew transferred both people to Traverse City at 8:45 p.m.
