Coast Guard Tows Disabled 19-foot Boat Near Galves Banks
The 19-foot vessel Uchan was rescued on June 13, 2024, about 25 miles offshore of Guam from Galves Banks, with three people aboard. JRSC Guam watchstanders received a distress call on VHF channel 16 reporting the boat adrift with engine trouble. JRSC Guam issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast, advised mariners in the area, and served as search and rescue mission coordinator. U.S. Coast Guard Station Apra Harbor launched a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium. The crew found the engine failure was caused by water contamination in the fuel line and tank, then put Uchan in a stern tow toward Malesso Pier. The case took nine hours, including a five-hour tow back to safety. All three aboard Uchan arrived at the pier uninjured.
