Coast Guard Rescues Mariner from Burning Sailboat Off Chincoteague
A Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew rescued a 58-year-old mariner from a 9-foot dinghy on May 23, 2024, about 60 miles east of Chincoteague, Virginia. Aircrews arrived after receiving a 406-megahertz Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon alert. The mariner waved to the crew as they arrived on scene. The mariner had abandoned the 45-foot sailboat Trilogy after it caught fire while he was transiting from the Bahamas to New Jersey. The sailboat was floating in the water on fire during the rescue.  ·  ·  ·
