Coast Guard Rescues 55 Migrants on Monito Island
Coast Guard Cutter Heriberto Hernandez's Over the Horizon boat crew rescued 55 migrants on Jan. 19, 2023, after they were left stranded by smugglers on Monito Island, Puerto Rico. Those rescued were 45 men and nine women who claimed Haitian nationality, and one man who claimed to be a Cuban national. They were transported to Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, where they were received by Ramey Sector U.S. Border Patrol agents.
