Coast Guard Rescues 4 from Capsized Boat on Lake Erie
Coast Guard crews rescued four people from a capsized 23-foot vessel on Lake Erie near Erie, Pennsylvania, on August 8, 2025. Coast Guard Sector Eastern Great Lakes received the initial report at 9:34 a.m. and issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast. Station Erie launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew, and Air Station Detroit launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew. Station Erie rescued three people from the water. Crews then had indications that a fourth person was under the vessel, tapping on the hull. The helicopter crew deployed a rescue swimmer, who visually confirmed the person was alive in an air pocket, extracted them, and brought them to Station Erie's Response Boat-Small. The four survivors were transferred to emergency medical services on shore. They were medically stable and no injuries were reported.
