Coast Guard Rescues 3 After Sturgeon Bay Capsize
The Coast Guard rescued three people from Lake Michigan on Monday, July 28, after a 16-foot vessel capsized in Sturgeon Bay, Michigan. Coast Guard Sector Northern Great Lakes received the initial report at 1:27 p.m. The sector issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast, launched a Station St. Ignace Response Boat-Small crew, and diverted an Air Station Traverse City MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew. Both crews arrived on scene. The helicopter crew rescued the three people from the water, while the station crew confirmed no signs of pollution, debris, or hazards to navigation. The three boaters were wearing life jackets, which the Coast Guard said made locating and rescuing them more efficient. They were transported to Pellston Regional Airport in Michigan, where Emergency Medical Services were waiting for further evaluation.
