Coast Guard Medevacs Injured Crewmember Off Dutch Harbor
Watchstanders from the 17th Coast Guard District got a report from the Xin Li Hia crew at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday requesting a medevac for a 38-year-old crewmember with severe abdominal pain. The Hong Kong-flagged cargo ship was about 800 nautical miles southwest of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, and its crew was advised to transit toward Dutch Harbor until it was within range of the helicopter crew. On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, an Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk crew arrived on scene at about 5:34 p.m., about 230 nautical miles southwest of Dutch Harbor. The helicopter crew hoisted the injured crewmember and took him to Dutch Harbor, where LifeMed met him for further transportation to Anchorage. Watchstanders also diverted Coast Guard Cutter Kimball, repositioned the Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk crew to Dutch Harbor, and launched an Air Station Kodiak C-130 Hercules crew with a second helicopter crew aboard from Kodiak to Dutch Harbor.
