Coast Guard Interdicts 49 Dominicans Near Desecheo Island
Coast Guard Cutter Winslow Griesser interdicted a makeshift boat near Desecheo Island, Puerto Rico, on Oct. 1, 2022. Forty-nine Dominican Republic nationals were aboard and taking part in an illegal voyage. The cutter repatriated 47 people from the group to a Dominican Republic Navy vessel on Oct. 2, 2022. The remaining two are facing federal prosecution in Puerto Rico on charges of attempting to bring undocumented aliens into the United States. The interdiction was part of ongoing local and federal multi-agency efforts in support of the Caribbean Border Interagency Group, CBIG.  ·  ·
