Coast Guard Helps Kiribati Rescue 2 Aboard Sailboat
The U.S. Coast Guard assisted Kiribati search and rescue coordination officials with the rescue of two people aboard a damaged sailboat near the Republic of Kiribati. The search began after an EPIRB transmitted a distress signal near Kiribati for the sailing vessel Espiritu. On July 28, 2024, a Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point HC-130J Super Hercules airplane crew spotted the sailing vessel Asperity aground on the east side of Fanning Island near Kiribati.  ·  ·
