A frightened scuba diver near Long Island Sound makes a call to the Coast Guard on channel 16 vhf. Diving in strong current, his girlfriend loses contact with her respirator. A good Samaritan vessel, the Challenger, breaks in on the call to offer assistance. Another boat boat nearby breaks in to clarify the situation for rescue personnel. Her body was recovered a few days later several miles from the original site.
