Coast Guard crews and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department interdicted five Mexican lanchas off the southern Texas coast on Dec. 9, 2023, seizing 2,640 pounds of illegally caught fish.

In one case, a 26-foot over-the-horizon boat crew from Coast Guard Cutter Jacob Poroo, manned by the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Benjamin Dailey, interdicted a lancha about 4 miles offshore. Four fishermen aboard were detained, about 1,650 pounds of red snapper were seized, and the lancha was piloted ashore.

In another case, a 45-foot Response Boat Medium crew from Coast Guard Station South Padre Island interdicted a lancha about 10 miles offshore. Four fishermen aboard were detained, about 440 pounds of red snapper were found, and the detainees were transferred to U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel for further processing.
