As for my personal experience, when you say feet are a somewhat intimate thing, you don't see them often, kinks/fetishes derive from things that happened when we were young etc...
I've often thought my kink for feet comes from the fact I've lived in Tahiti where all the girls were in flip flops all the time, and I remember being mesmerized by that sight. Being a teenager at the time, it must have contributed to shape my sexuality in some way.
