Serious Thread - That Song That Marked Your Life and Why
For me this song was a before and after, in terms of composition and execution was a direct blow to my brain and I think that knowing the great bands of that and other years without giving them less credit, this is the song that put me where I am today. The album itself is a masterpiece (not underestimating the other albums of the band) but 2112 ... an incredible journey of no return. and luckily I had the pleasure of seeing them live back in 2010 on the Time Machine Tour 2112 Helped me overcome the death of my mother (Part 6: Soliloquy in particular, although it sounds strange since it is the part where the protagonist commits suicide which is what my mother did, but that part followed from Part 7: Grand Finale gave me so much strength, I wish I could explain it better, but today after 9 years I still can not understand many things from that January) · |

Re: Serious Thread - That Song That Marked Your Life and Why
I can’t say there is a specific point in my life this got me through. I remember it playing on the radio my mom would put on when I would go to sleep when I was little. But the lyrics do explain me a lot where I think others may not get me or understand why I am mad or sad. I know it is about the end of love and feelings but to me some of the lyrics just fit and explain how and why I am so complicated. Th song that got me through my father’s death was the Volbeat cover of Hank William’s I’m so Lonesome I Could Cry. I do really like the original Hank William’s version but the cover just helped me because of the way it was arranged and it was like it took my music genre and combined with my dad’s. I always wished he could have heard it before he died. |

Lila's Theme by Shelby Flint from Snoopy Come Home. Helped teach me how to feel. Attached is my own acapella version.

![]() I think it's very logical what you're saying about the original meaning of the song and what it means to you, I think the hardest part is getting others to understand it or at least try to interpret it as one does. The important thing is that if the song manages to be a channel for all your feelings and can take you to a place where you can see yourself it could be a way to start facing certain attitudes and ways of being. Luckily no one is perfect in this world, but accepting things and finding a place where they can co-exist with us is a big step. I regret the loss of your father, it is very difficult to explain certain things and situations in which life puts us, either by the cycle of life or something that was based on an unfortunate event, I wish there were words that could really share the pain (a strange combination between forgetfulness and memory, which makes it something that can be sad and happy at the same time) and the growth it brings (perhaps at times one stops in his day and thinks about things that could have been) I am not a Christian nor do I believe to have a base in any of the other religions, but I know that there is something beyond what can be explained where the energy of another human being not only surrounds us but also we transmit it ourselves, that's why I'm very sure that your father should listen to that song by your side and accompany you anywhere because his energy is now part of you |

What an amazing song! I usually listen to
when all things are fucked up I loved your version and it also brought back many memories of my childhood. You have a wonderful voice and a very good handling of it. |

Re: Serious Thread - That Song That Marked Your Life and Why
I am sorry about your mother. I imagine that time after is like a dream because grief makes you feel outside yourself. It is different than depression because depression seems to ground you inside yourself but grief is like you are so upset you step outside yourself to make sure you do what you have to. I am also not religious but maybe your mom nudged you toward that album or was there while you listened knowing that music can ground you when you feel so down or outside yourself you cannot function. I do not know, just agree with you that it kind of makes sense energy remains constant as well. |

I love that song and I really find fascinating the power that southern rock has over feelings ... I take this opportunity to thank everyone for sharing their moments / songs. I hope this continues to grow.
