Re: Film Reviews.

Traffic department. 2012. Poland.
6/10
A boozed up cop is suspected of killing a fellow officer.
Filmed with alot of 'cellfone' footage that involves visits to whore houses, it shows a corrupt police force that the average citizen has little respect for. Quirky at the start, when the one officer is charged by the police watchdog crew, he goes on the run with the aim of finding the truth.
The film has a similar theme as most films like this, but there are a few differences. It's gritter and shows a level of corruption in most areas of society. Kinda simple which made me lose interest a bit due to a lack of tension. Good crime drama without a flashy ending.

Re: Film Reviews.

Network. 1976.
8/10
A news broadcaster says he going to shoot himself live on air and becomes a messiah prophet for the company.
Sets up the live suicide right at the start and slowly introduces the characters who want to keep it going vs his friend who wants to get him help.
The film shows in a unique way that different structures and the lengths 'entertainment' companies will go to achieve high ratings.
There are the lower levels, cameramen, floor staff and writers. Doing their job with any concern, the main focus is the executives. Power hungry and looking for the nest thing that helps 'the company'. It's a timeless film that shows that news and shock programming can and will be used to control the masses that tune in, and the broadcasters that are used to promote this agenda are expendable.

Re: Film Reviews.

Barbie.
6/10
A plastic doll discovers the real world.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling star as Barbie and Ken, the doll all little girls have. Barbie develops selfawareness, loses control, takes back what hers, in a fun and colourful way.
Moves at steady pace plot wise. Lacks near the end because im not the target audience, not because of any fault of the script. Interesting because the sets are bright colours and are real. Set with the real world is shows what can be done.
The "all men are doomed" blokes are doing it for show. Any one who can see that much into this film, is taking it too seriously.

The three musketeers: D'artagnan. 2023. France.
4/10
Whats starts as an impressive textured look at a classic story, seems to fall under it's own weight. Politics gets more involved with this just seeming to the first of a series. After the one hour mark it became a chore and i flicked thru to the end. Action scenes were well done with a dense story that should to some.

The bad sleep well. 1960. Japan.
8/10
A bloke devises a way to extract revenge for the 'suicide' of his father. Slow burn crime mystery by Akira Kurosawa. Engaging, it slowly shows all the characters, just who they are and what their motives are. South Korean films have taken this style and thrown in alot more characters and sometimes jarring twists. This builds the tension with the viewer able to see all the mechanics of the plot with a sutble twist all of its own at the end.

Oldboy. 2003. South Korea.
10/10
(rewatch)
A bloke is locked in a room for 15 years and when hes set free, he goes on a mission to find out why.
Classic revenge tale with a involved plot that leaves you guessing till the end. Fimed with long takes it follows the main character Oh Dae Su as he and a woman try to track down what happened to him. Never boring, it balances humour and violence in a interesting way that doesn't overpower you. The second in the 'Vengence trilogy' and by far the best.

Re: Film Reviews.

The MEG 2. 2023.
.
Fast forwarded thru this in less than 10 mins.
Watched the first one, while finishing a picture and was kinda amused by the camp factor, but largely unimpressed.
This was a gigantic leap into absurdity. It was interesting to see the level of CGI that went into it, but it came across as bizarre.
Statham was fine in the lead role, he did his usual thing.
But the final scene...
(SPOILER)
when he holds up a helicopter blade and impales a 'huge shark' thru the mouth its a clear sign that action movies, even the bad ones from the '80s, are still better than this.

Re: Film Reviews.

The Death Of Mr. Lazarescu. 2005 Romania.
7/10
A old man has to get his neighbours to help him call a ambulance. From there he is moved on from hospital to hospital.
Slow burn black comedy about the hassles one has to endure when turning up a hospital.
It follows the lead character and the ambulance nurse for all the film as he slowly gets weaker. With no real plot it creates a simmering level on engagement as the staff at the hospitals, seem to have a 'just another day' type of attitude and don't really care. Little signs of caring shine thru, but it is a clear view of present day society when a major incident jams up the health system and can cause the death of a man who just needed help.

To be or not to be. 1942.
8/10
A theater troupe in Warsaw Poland work with the underground to disrupt nazi plans.
Entertaining comedy that was made in america but set in Poland during WW2. Kinda lightweight compared to today, but still has alot of jokes and scenes that wouldn't be 'acceptable'. Solid performances from the cast with a run time of just over 90mins.
