90 Min DVS Vinyl DJ Set Uplifting Trance

I want to emphasize a key distinction here so there is no confusion. DVS vinyl sets use time coded records that don't actually have music on them. What they are used for is to control the playback of digitized music. In that sense, and unlike my previous 2 sets I posted on here, the music is in digital format as opposed to analogue format that you would hear using real vinyl records.

Beyond that, it is a little involved explaining how it works and other differences between DVS vinyl and analogue vinyl. But, I do want to mention this to mitigate confusion.

Anyway, here is a little set of uplifting trance, more to come.

Serato is one of the software apps used for DVS playback. The one I use is Traktor since my mixer is designed to interface with it. There are other apps used for DVS playback, but these are the 2 most commonly used (I don't know much about Abelton, but I think that is an app used for production).

Anyway, what I really like about this rig is that I have the option to playback digitized tracks (namely those that are not pressed on real vinyl) or use it as a standalone mixer for real vinyl instead or both at the same time even though I haven't figured out how to do that yet. The instructions for using this system are crappy and most online tutorials don't mention anything about playing both.

I prefer real vinyl but anytime I put together a DVS set, it is because all or most of the tracks in the set were produced after 2008. Most tracks produced after 2008 are only in digital format.

Here a couple of pics of my setup in case you are wondering....

Wow, really just straight up clones of the Tech12s--the circle button is the only difference I see.
Now Traktor is one I am familiar with. My friend had this sweet controller. This all in one mixer with big CDJ sized wheels on either side--the thing like lived on his belly.
I use Logic to put audio together for my videos. Record stuff too, and just general effing around with.
Here's a prison rapist sample, the opening of the Sword In The Stone cartoon, and a break beat off the Lockdown Breaks album that Luke Vibert released, so people wouldn't get bored locked inside--all pulled apart and reorganized on the sequencer/sampler I just got.

Hahaha!! I was going to mention that my decks are basically a ripoff of the Technics, but you nailed it. I actually wanted the Techs, but I couldn't afford them as they are 2X the price of the PLX-1000's. But man, I still wanted them, even now. Maybe someday, who knows?

The mixer I have is also an all-in-one and those things can get REALLY expensive so it sounds your friend has a dope ass setup!

Anyway, hey thanks for this clip! I love it!! Do you have a YouTube channel or something so I can check out your other work? You have quite the imagination and skill to turn your ideas into something real my friend! Do you do any of this professionally or just as a hobby?

BTW, it has been awhile since I got behind my decks. Maybe it is time to go back and finish that hardstyle set I have been putting off. Cheers!

Re: 90 Min DVS Vinyl DJ Set Uplifting Trance

You know what decks I always liked? The Stanton STR8 series, for scratching--over on the end of the table. I used to love hanging out at this place. So much fun, and my friend would scratch old Bill Cosby records with shit like Tipsy and trip all our asses out all night.

No, no Youtube channel, or anything really. I just play around. I like modular synthesizers, but I don't even record most of the stuff I make. More it's just hypnotic and fun.
My system is very different than in this picture now. A few more modules, including my two favourites, a Moog DFAM and a Make Noise Mimeophon that aren't shown here. It's all apart right now though, so I can't photograph it.
