On September 15, 2009, the launch cable on Knott's Berry Farm's Xcelerator roller coaster snapped during acceleration. The ride uses a catch car and cable to bring the train up to speed.

The broken cable struck and cut through the fiberglass front of the train, sending debris upward. Automatic brakes engaged after the train cleared the launch and stopped it safely when it did not make it over the first hill.

A child sustained a severe leg laceration that required multiple surgeries.
