Wet Charge Damages Electric Arc Furnace at Steel Mill
A wet charge caused severe damage to an electric arc furnace at a steel mill. Water trapped in scrap metal can rapidly vaporize when it contacts molten metal at temperatures above 1,500 C, producing an explosive pressure event.
