Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire Escape Collapse, 1911
On March 15, 1911, the Asch Building's single fire escape collapsed during the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York City. It failed under the weight of fleeing workers and the heat of the fire. The fire caused 146 deaths and 78 injuries. Most of those killed were immigrant women and girls aged 14 to 23.
