Tianjin Port Chemical Explosions, August 12, 2015
On August 12, 2015, explosions at a chemical facility at the Port of Tianjin were caused by the improper storage of nitrocellulose and ammonium nitrate. The blasts were estimated to be equivalent to 800 tonnes of TNT. A total of 173 people were reported dead and about 800 were injured. The chief executive of the company operating at the facility was sentenced to death for knowingly allowing improper storage practices.
