Studstrup Power Station Pellet Silo Fire Burns for Weeks
A fire at Studstrup Power Station has been burning through about 55,000 metric tons of wood pellets for nearly three weeks. Firefighters initially hoped to save some of the stored pellets, but that effort failed. Flooding the silo was not considered effective because the dense material would prevent water from reaching the fire at its core, and the resulting smoke could require evacuation of a large area. The heat has raised concerns that the silo roof could collapse, complicating firefighting operations. Firefighters said it could take several more weeks to bring the fire under control.
