Recovering a Derailed Freight Train at an Asturian Tunnel Mouth

A Renfe coil-carrying freight train running from Trasona to Santa Catalina hit a rockfall on the Leon to Gijon line near Puente de los Fierros, Asturias, at 5:20 in the morning on November 29, 2021. The locomotive derailed and ended up wedged against the rock face at a tunnel entrance, with five wagons off the rails behind it and part of the load shed.

The driver was taken to hospital in Mieres with multiple contusions. Rail traffic between Asturias and Leon was suspended while Adif cleared the site. This footage is from the recovery work at the tunnel mouth in December.
