Pulp Digester Pressure Vessel Ruptures at Maine Paper Mill
On April 15, 2020, a pressure vessel ruptured in the pulp digester at a paper mill in Maine, causing an explosion that sent debris down around the site. No injuries or deaths were reported. Pulp production was shut down, and the disruption cost many workers their jobs. The mill received state permission to rebuild the digesters, but the company chose not to rebuild them.
