Oh, What a Fixer-upper!
The poor couple paid a corker of a sum for a pig in a poke, as it turns out. You have to make sure you stick the roof down properly, that's what I learned! Actually doesn't look that bad. Will need a new roof, but it probably needed that to begin with. Looks like the sidewalls are still in good shape. Plus it's a perfect time to put in all new plumbing and wiring, and a new heating and air conditioning system. No need to put up with squeaky old floors and doors that don't fit. Everything will be new. (Old houses are a pain in the ass! The only people who think they are quaint never had to live in them and fix them constantly.) would have cried for about 10 seconds, and then gone back to work.) (If I had lived in London in WWII, I would have painted a target on the roof of my house. Why pay to demolish when the German Air Force will do it for free!?)

Nowadays, with a house in the anglosphere, as a result of demand caused by restriction of planning and unrestriction of immigration you're basically paying for the location. Houses really aren't expensive to built. Labour isn't as expensive as land. I only worked in construction for a few months, but I remember in one case having to knock down two perfectly serviceable houses on adjoining lots, just so that three houses could be built on the same site. It felt like such a shame, helping literally rip up lived-in houses. |
