MV Sewol Sank Off South Korea, Killing 304
On April 16, 2014, the MV Sewol sank about 1.5 km off the South Korean coast. The ferry was carrying 476 people. A total of 304 people died, including 250 school students. Fifteen crew members were put on trial over the sinking. Prosecutors sought the death penalty for one crew member on a homicide charge, but the court acquitted him of homicide, finding that his negligence did not amount to intent to kill.  ·
