Mirepoix-sur-Tarn Bridge Collapse Killed Two in 2019
A bridge at Mirepoix-sur-Tarn in southwestern France collapsed on November 18, 2019, at about 8:00 a.m., dropping a truck and at least one car into the water. A 15-year-old was killed, and the truck driver was later confirmed dead. Five people were injured. The bridge, built in 1935 and renovated in 2003, had a 19-metric-ton weight limit and signs banning more than one heavy vehicle from crossing at a time. The truck was reported to weigh at least 36 metric tons, more than twice the limit. The bridge had last been inspected in December 2018.
