Iroquois Theater Fire Killed More Than 602 in Chicago
On December 30, 1903, an electrical short circuit started a fire at Chicago's Iroquois Theater. The flames spread through the interior, which contained extensive wood trim. More than 602 people died and 250 were injured. Inward-opening exit doors contributed to people becoming trapped as the crowd tried to escape.  ·
