Hot Stuff Collision at Reno Air Race Start
During the Reno Air Race Gold Final start on September 18, 2016, the Formula One racer Hot Stuff stopped after its engine was not running properly. The pilot opened the aircraft's canopy to signal a stop. A flagman signaled an X to alert the following competitor, but the trailing aircraft was already too far into its takeoff run and its angle prevented the pilot from seeing Hot Stuff stopped ahead. The aircraft collided. The Hot Stuff pilot suffered a hand injury. The other pilot was uninjured.
