Helge Ingstad Sank After Collision with Oil Tanker in 2018
In 2018, the Norwegian frigate Helge Ingstad collided with an oil tanker after its watch officers mistook the tanker, seen visually and on radar and AIS, for a stationary object near shore. The frigate ran aground and later sank. The tanker sustained damage but remained seaworthy. Court proceedings were ongoing.
