Gothenburg Tram Disaster Killed 13 on March 12, 1992
Gothenburg's worst tram accident occurred on March 12, 1992, killing 13 people and injuring 29. The incident began when a faulty pantograph tore down an overhead line, cutting power to part of the tram network. Trams automatically applied their brakes when the power failed. A tram affected by the outage, not the one that damaged the overhead line, stopped in a busy intersection and caused a traffic jam.  ·
