Fire at Carus Chemical Plant in La Salle, Illinois
A fire broke out at the Carus Chemical plant in La Salle, Illinois, on January 11, 2023. The plant produces potassium permanganate, an oxidant used in drinking-water treatment, wastewater treatment, and industrial chemicals, as well as phosphates and polymers. A green substance was reported released during the incident.
