Re: Excavator Gymnastics
A rare accident occurred at the Ho Man Tin Central Kowloon Route site. When the workers were hoisting a dredger to the shaft last night, the sling suddenly broke, and the dredger fell down the shaft in a "somersault" manner. Yesterday, the Highways Department ordered the work in the shaft to stop immediately and cooperated with the investigation of the Labor Department. According to industry analysis, the accident or the workers involved did not tighten the boom close to the fuselage. Ho Man Tin Fat Kwong Street "Central Kowloon Route - Central Tunnel Works" A horrific accident happened at a shaft site where a dredger fell. The process was photographed by Sky Eye and went viral yesterday. The incident happened at 7:19 p.m. the previous night. Workers were using a sling to lift a dredger. When the dredger was suspended in the air, it suddenly lost its balance. The boom on the machine tilted forward. The dredger "somersaulted" downwards and hit the shaft, causing the cement to break. The entire dredger fell down the shaft within seconds, raising a large amount of sand and dust, and many workers ran away. The scope of the project is to construct the middle section of the tunnel, cut and cover tunnels in Yau Ma Tei and Ma Tau Kok, piles of the Ho Man Tin Ventilation Building and continuous wall. Lian Weiming, vice chairman of the Hong Kong Construction Industry Machinery Operation and Maintenance Professionals Association, analyzed that during the lifting of the dredger, the workers suspected that they did not retract the boom closer to the fuselage, so that the center of gravity was outward instead of concentrated in the center of the dredger , thus causing the dredger to lose its balance. Luckily no one was injured, road department ordered to stop work The Highways Department said it was very concerned about the incident. The engineering staff stationed at the construction site immediately stopped the lifting work and informed the Department that the Department had also ordered the construction in the shaft to stop. Before each lifting work, the contractor will seal off all lifting areas according to the rules and prohibit workers from entering the lifting operation area, so no one was injured this time. A serious accident occurred in this project in July this year. The Central Kowloon Route Tunnel at the junction of Shing Kai Road and Sung Wong Toi Road was at a depth of 20 meters. When seven workers were performing reinforcement work on the site, the 22-ton steel support suddenly collapsed. One worker was crushed and died in hospital, while six others were injured. The Labor Department stated that it was very concerned about the accident. Since the workers working in the shaft were in imminent danger of being hit by falling loads, they had issued a "Notice of Suspended Work" to the main contractor until the department was satisfied that the contractor had Take measures to eliminate the relevant hazards before resuming work. The department is investigating at full speed to determine the cause of the accident and find out the legal responsibility of those responsible. If the investigation finds that there is a violation of occupational safety and health regulations, it will be dealt with in accordance with the law. |
