Durham Gas Explosion Destroys Buildings, Kills Two
On April 10, 2019, a gas explosion near downtown Durham, North Carolina, struck the 115 block of North Duke Street in the Brightleaf District. The blast occurred at the Kaffeinate coffee shop after firefighters were dispatched at 9:38 a.m. for a reported gas leak. Several buildings were destroyed and dozens more were damaged. Two people were killed and 25 were injured, including nine firefighters. City officials cited a gas leak as the cause of the explosion.  ·
