Drunk Driver Spills Alkyldimethylamine Near Pax, West Virginia
On August 25, 2022, a truck carrying more than 3,000 gallons of alkyldimethylamine crashed on the West Virginia Turnpike near Pax, West Virginia. The driver was arrested after recording a 0.128 BAC. The truck and trailer slid nearly 200 yards along the center divider, rupturing the cargo container and chemical totes. The spill spread across both northbound and southbound lanes, closing the turnpike for about 20 hours. The chemical entered Skitter Creek and then Paint Creek, causing a major fish kill. Paint Creek flows into the Kanawha River. ·
