Container Ship Strike Collapses Crane at Busan New Port
On April 6, 2020, the container ship Milano Bridge struck gantry crane 85 while proceeding to berth 7 at Busan New Port, South Korea, with a pilot aboard. The ship then struck the berthed container ship Seaspan Ganges and, still moving on momentum, hit cranes 81 and 84. Crane 85 collapsed, while cranes 81 and 84 were derailed. The crane operator sustained slight injuries. Seaspan Ganges left port shortly afterward, with damage reported as slight or none. Milano Bridge had not yet moored by 11:00 UTC, reportedly because crane debris was on its stern.
