CH-46 Crashes During USNS Pecos Landing Attempt, 7 Killed
On December 9, 1999, a CH-46D Sea Knight crashed into the ocean off Camp Lejeune during a training exercise involving the USNS Pecos. The helicopter was attempting a landing or fast-rope approach when it became entangled in the ship's safety net and went into the water. Eighteen people were aboard. Eleven were rescued and seven were killed.
