Caribbean Ferry Kydon Crashes into the Pier During Docking Maneuver
May 19. Caribbean ferry Kydon crashed into the pier at Port of Sansouci in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The accident happened during docking maneuver and caused sufficient damages to the vessel and the port structure. According to reports, the ferry had just arrived in Santo Domingo and was already partially tied up with ramp being lowered, but was pushed by the current and collided with the pier. Fortunately there were no injuries, but ship Kydon suffered some damages. According to the company operator the vessel has no underwater breaches and only ramp looks broken during the collision. “There was a situation of breaking one of the cables that was tied to the docks of the pier causing the impact.  It resulted in displacement of some containers causing damage to the infrastructure of the perimeter gate of the port and property damage”, said the port authority official statement. “The situation is under control and the operations of the port and those of the Caribbean Ferries remain normal”, adds the statement. The local authorities initiated investigation for the accident. There is no reported water pollution and traffic in the area was not affected. The ferry Kydon (IMO: 8916607) is operating on regular route between the Santo Domingo and San Juan de Puerto Rico. The vessel has overall length of 192.00 m, moulded beam of 27.00 m and maximum draft of 5.40 m. The deadweight of the ship is 6,987 DWT and the gross tonnage is 29,991 GRT. The ferry is operated by Ferries del Caribe. |

The ship was stopped. The tide pushed the ship, cable broke and caused the ship crash into the pier. |

They are lazy.  They obviously half-assed the docking procedure, not properly securing both ends of the ship. This. This right here. This is why you follow procedures! |
