well back in the day the bridge may have been able to handle the load. weather and time may have weakened the steel.

yeah, that looks like a 1940's bridge. Plus all the years of salt on the road in the winter.

An outboard stringer failed, probably at a rusted connection to a floor beam.

The video still shows the vertical chord that dropped first as the bridge collapsed.

I took 41 ton over a bridge in Pittsburgh marked for 27, police shut down the road I needed to use & the only other way was over this bridge. No issues but if not for them I wouldn't have went that way, just no other choice.
