Bradford Tyre Dump Fire Disrupts Roads and Rail Services
A fire involving thousands of illegally stored tyres burned for five days at a former go-kart track in Bradford, UK. Roads and businesses were closed, and rail services at Bradford Interchange were cancelled, although Bradford Forster Square remained open. The Environment Agency had visited the site in June and ordered the landowner to remove the tyres. The landowner said the property's renters had agreed to remove them in exchange for a period of rent-free use. Firefighters used an estimated 17 million litres of drinking water, in addition to extracted water, while tackling the blaze. Two people were arrested on suspicion of arson.
