Blücher Sunk by Norwegian Fortress Torpedo Battery in 1940

On April 9, 1940, the German flagship cruiser Blücher was hit and sunk by a torpedo battery at Norway's Oscarsborg Fortress. German intelligence had not identified the battery before the attack.

Gestapo agents bound for Oslo to seize the Norwegian king and government officials were aboard. The sinking delayed the operation, allowing the king and others to escape.
