Apartment Fire in Colorado Forces Family to Jump from Second Story Window

One man is left hospitalised and five Colorado families are without a home after trash room catches fire in an apartment complex.

The entire event was captured on a neighbour's security camera. The fire appears to have started in the trash room, situated underneath the only egress point for apartment 'D' in the building. The family, including two young children and a dog, occupying the 'D' unit were forced to jump out of a second story window after the fire started. The father of the family in the 'D' apartment was left hospitalised with non life-threatening injuries. He has since been released but will require extensive physical therapy.

First responders were quick to arrive on the scene and the blaze was extinguished within an hour. The building was deemed a total loss. The cause of the fire is as of yet to be determined, however arson is not suspected. The investigation is still ongoing.
