Antares Launch Failure at Wallops, October 28, 2014
An Antares rocket carrying the Cygnus cargo spacecraft on the Orb-3 resupply mission failed six seconds after liftoff from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia, on October 28, 2014. An explosion occurred in the thrust section after the rocket cleared the tower. The vehicle fell back onto Launch Pad 0A, and the Range Safety officer issued a destruct command just before impact. There were no injuries. Orbital Sciences said the pad escaped significant damage, although early repair estimates were about $20 million. An anomaly investigation board was formed to investigate the failure.
