Accident in a Russian Steel Plant Spills Molten Metal
Thousands of pounds of molten metal come pouring out of it's ladle onto the floor due to equipment failure. Fortunately no one was hurt in this incident, but the whole plant could have gone up in flames if the outcome had been different.

That is epic! As if they stayed in there with it. I didn't think he was going to move when it started coming towards him..

Re: Accident in a Russian Steel Plant Spills Molten Metal
Looks like they turned on the "transport" command while they were pouring. It appears the dispensing crucible is just moving along, as it would if there were a group of molds to be poured. It's just dramatic because there aren't any molds there, and it's falling on the floor. Somebody hit the wrong switch. This is a lot more dramatic than serious. I pour from my backyard foundry, (On a MUCH SMALLER scale than this!)and I think if you went and looked at the results after this, there would just be scorch marks on the concrete. The molten metal doesn't actually ATTACH to anything, so you can pretty much sweep it up with a broom after it cools. Unless the molten metal lands on something like power cables, it doesn't do much. Even if it lands on something, unless the item is flammable, when it cools off, you can just tap the metal off of the object as if it was plaster. I just tap my foundry tools, and the metal simply comes loose. The sparks look huge, but I think it would be kind of like sweeping up rock salt on your driveway in the wintertime. But it's still a cool video. Nice photography. Taking pics of molten metal is difficult because of the light intensity differences. |
