Aberfan Coal Tip Collapse Kills 144 in South Wales
On October 21, 1966, a waste coal tip collapsed onto the South Wales village of Aberfan. Coal slurry crushed a school and nearby homes. The disaster killed 116 children and 28 adults.  ·
