Re: 2 Mechanics Stuck on Top of a Burning Windturbine
I went out and searched for why they didn’t do a helicopter rescue, and the only answer I have found is that the wind turbines are in the absolute middle of nowehere and there simply wasn’t enough time for a heli-rescue. Just awful!!!!

Re: 2 Mechanics Stuck on Top of a Burning Windturbine
-height of that windturbine = 70 metres ( 230 feet ), there's no way you can escape from that height - director of the windmill park saw the 2 engineers for the last time, they were holding on to eachother. -while rescue services were being called, trying to free both men, the director saw one of them laying motionless on the ground. - one eyewitness said he saw ''one man on fire falling'' - during the accident, the two were working with other colleagues from the maintenance company Bettink in Barneveld because of the storm earlier this week. - a rescue team from the fire department searched for the other man for hours - at top of the windturbine it was boiling hot ![]() |

Re: 2 Mechanics Stuck on Top of a Burning Windturbine
I remember this sad story, the picture of them both stood helplessly on top strikes a very saddening nerve in ones soul. 1 man I believe jumped and 1 tried to head back down the hatch through the blaze, sadly both perished. Made me think a large inflatable that fire crews have must be used in future should things go very wrong. Life is so precious and we can think of more solutions to prevent premature death, it just needs creative minds to come up with them |
