1985 Valley Parade Stand Fire Kills 56
On May 11, 1985, an old wooden stand at Valley Parade in West Yorkshire, England, caught fire during a windy match day and burned to the ground in less than five minutes. The fire was reported to have been started by a cigarette. Fifty-six people died and 265 were injured, mainly with burns.
